First Draft of Lesson Plan's

By Moving Tides/me: Fabric Paint, scraps from scrap store (foam, fabric scraps), Lining fabric, purple elastic. Templates, Stapler and staples, masking tape
Objective:

Learning to paint between the lines, follow instructions.
Learn about costume as whole and event
Introduction:


Start at 9.30am
Intro who I am, and name labels
Intro on the whole design  and the techniques how it will be all be made and any questions (20 mins)
9.50am
Explanation of what we will be doing with the day and in-depth example of what to do (15-20 mins)
1pm demonstration of next steps to fins
Main:


Fins-
10.10am- 11.45 (Hopefully!)
Draw around template, masking tape where don’t want the paint to go, and painting the fins before Lunch.
11.45-12pm clear up mess
1-2.15pm
After Lunch- cutting out the other shapes from a template and gluing them on.
2.15-2.30 clear up mess
2.30-3 show elastic how to and work in pairs
The elastic around the calf and cut and staple for every child to size and label with Childs name.
Same with wrist
Plenary:



Outcome:


27 Primary school Fins = 54 separate fins
3 Secondary school Fins- 6 Fins
Calf and wrist elastic ready to sew
Additional notes, inc suggestions for next lesson and follow up:
Collect t-shirts to Dye Yellow before next session.
Bring prototype for both Primary and Secondary fins
To do for next time- Finish off the secondary fins (That I used as an example, and make one more set of fins.
Sew elastic

Make bubble headdresses for secondary kids x 6

Supplied by school: elastic bands , t-shirts for primary, staples, stapler, scissors, sellotape, PVA
Supplied by moving tides/me: t-shirts for secondary, fiber glass tape, plasterzote, net, elastic, staples, stapler, heat gun, paint, fabric paint
Objective:


Introduction:


9.30am
Name labels
Show the children how to use the templates and cutting out the plasterzote.  Show what will happen with heat gun
10.45am
Show the children how to decorate the masks with paint
1pm
Explain what to do with the t-shirts and do an example for the children (15 mins)
2pm
Show children template and plat technique (10 mins)
Main:


9.45am-10.45am
Make Main shape of the headdress using template and add thin elastic .
10-11 Get parent to heat gun each of the masks so they are rounded and nose fits
11am-11.30am decorate the front of the mask with paint
11.30-12pm everyone help tidy up all messy paint
12pm-1pm lunch
1.15pm-2pm
Put the elastic bands around the t-shirts, making sure they all keep to the same pattern (1 hour)
2-3pm
Extra- Start platting together net with ribbon and fabric scraps

Outcome:

33 t-shirts ready to dye
33 Headdresses base finished. Mask part painted
Made start with decorative parts to headdress

Email school to check about elastic bands.
Prepare 1 secondary elastic band t-shirts to dye before extra
Sew rest of the elastic for bells
Create 1 more secondary headdress base and finish demonstration base and masks
Dye all t-shirts

Supplied by moving tides: Bells Purple elastic, Dye, scraps fr0m scrap store

Introduction:


9.30 Show how to use the templates and show what designs need to go on the card
During Lunch- set up the red dye vats
1pm Show the children how to sew the bells onto the elastic
Main:


9.45am-11.30am
Decorate card and foam shapes with paint/glitter use templates
Also finish last SESSIONS foam circles and plated net/scraps
11.30-12 clean up
1pm-3pm
Sew the Bells onto the elastic
Extra attach fin to t-shirt using cable ties and elastic arm with staple
Plenary:



Outcome:

Headdress/Mask combination  cardboard shapes
33 finished Morris dancer style elastic with bells
Everything finished with t-shirts and fins and morris dance bells
Additional notes, inc suggestions for next lesson and follow up:
Laminate all the children’s cardboard shapes and cut out
Sew elastic arms to fins
Add gems to t-shirts

Introduction:


9.30am
Show the children how to cut out the shapes of foam and the other materials for the headdress
10.30
Start attaching it all together demonstration
2.30pm discussion about carnival and what we have learnt
Main:


9.45am
Cut out all the other materials for the headdress and plat the net for the back.
Glue it all together add cable ties and gems
2pm Clear and pack everything away

Outcome:


Finish all the costumes.


Additional notes, inc suggestions for next lesson and follow up:
10.30- end of the day parent/two parents needed on glue gun table putting it all together


Sort everything out so it’s ready  and safely stored for 12 July


These are my initial lesson plans to take to the tutorial's on Monday. (16th April) amendments may need to happen to make sure there is enough time for each activity. It's been a little tricky to work out how long things are going to take, as I won't be able to prototype my design until next week as that's when the material's will have arrived by.
